Requirements
- married couples and (restricted number of) single applicants can apply
- couples should have a long and stable relationship and the duration of marriage at least one year
- the applicants in the yearly quota can apply for a child under four years, the children may also have minor special needs
- the applicants outside quota (applications re: special needs children and children over four years) should have adequate resources and social worker’s recommendation for an adoption of a special needs or an older child
- the applicant family in the yearly quota can have one biological or adopted children already in the family
- if the family has several children or the applicant is single, the decision of acceptance will be made by DCY Adoption Board case by case
- the age of the applicants correlates with the adoptive child’s age
- good health
- adoption preparatory course

- aged 1−9 years
Estimated waiting time
- approximately two years
- during the past years the waiting time has been 2−3 years
Adoption trip
- the pick-up trip (minimum three weeks after the child proposal) takes about 3−4 weeks
